Mike Duckett, Hemp Technology Ltd.
Mike Duckett, Hemp Technology Ltd.
Topic: Update on Hemp in the United Kingdom

Starting his career on the technical side of the paper industry, Mike gained experience in all aspects of business working in engineering, production, and sales before leading the successful turnaround and eventual sale of a business. He has held a number of positions at Director level working in company turnarounds.

Mike first got involved in hemp when he joined Hemcore, now Hemp Technology, as Managing Director in September 2004. In that roll Mike developed the strategy for the business, raised the funds to build a state of the art bio refinery, taking the company from a cottage industry to a profitable business.

In order to establish a bio-based material supply chain for the North American construction industry Mike started visiting Canada in 2007 and first met with the Alberta team in February 2009 before the installation of the Vegreville pilot plant.

With the increasing demand for natural fibres across a number of sectors in North America Mike, working with American Lime Technology, has now left Hemp Technology to concentrate solely on the establishment of Stemia Group Ltd. A company set up to build a bio-refinery in Southern Alberta. Once the fund raising is complete he will relocate to Alberta to oversee the factory installation and run the business.

Topic: Hemp History Week Report

Christina Volgyesi, HIA project coordinator, will share campaign details of the third annual Hemp History Week, plans for the fourth in June 2013, and discuss how you can get involved in supporting the re-legalization of hemp farming in America.

With fifteen years of experience in sales and marketing, Christina Volgyesi became a founding partner of Living Harvest Foods in 2003. While president she was responsible for the nationwide U.S. roll out of the best-selling hemp milk, which tripled company sales in year one. Over the past three years, Christina has shifted her focus to hemp advocacy working with the HIA project coordinating and designing Hemp History Week. She also played a role in helping Oregon pass hemp farming legislation via lobbying efforts and testifying at the committee hearing.
